The Oakland Bears A/B teams traveled to Lake Tahoe for their Annual MLK Lake Tahoe Invitational. The 18AA team traveled to Pittsburgh to compete in the Steel City Cup.

Lake Tahoe Invitational:

Bears 8U6U Team 1 & Team 2 competed for the Championship!!! Both games were great, but Team 1 fell to a good Santa Rosa team, 4-3. Team 2 pulled an upset and defeated the Nevada Storm, 3-2, in OT on a beautiful goal by the young (very talented), Benji Ziegler!! I wish I had the foresight to record it, but my jaw was hanging on the ground as he deked his way through the team and the goalie! Both teams played extremely well under Coach Rory (Team 1), Coach Brad (Team 1), Coach Bob (Team 2), and Coach Chris (Team 2).

Bears 10UB competed hard all weekend and gained valuable experience by playing some pretty strong squads. They ended up winning their consolation game and took 3rd overall.

Bears 10UBB played with a skeleton squad at the 10UA level! With a few call-ups, the team was able to compete against some stiff competition. Unfortunately, they did not fare well in their consolation game.

Thank you to Coach Eugene for putting in the effort to support both teams! He did a fantastic job getting the kids ready for each game and continues to build the skills necessary for the kids to move up each year!

Bears 12UB really got some of the mechanics down and played tremendously strong during their stay in Lake Tahoe. They, too, gained some valuable experience, but were unable to come away with a victory in their consolation game on Monday morning. I’m eager to see these kids develop each week and am positive that the team will begin to find traction this second half of the season!

Overall, the kids, families, and coaches all had a great time in Lake Tahoe!

Pittsburgh Steel City Cup:

Coach Chris was able to pull some strings in the Steel City that allowed his team to gain access to one of the newest buildings in the NHL. He continued his success at the MyHockeyTournament series and led the 18AA team to a 2-0-1 record in Round Robin play. The 18AA team sealed the deal in their Championship game against the North Carolina Jr. Checkers, 5-3.

Pictures say a thousand words, but it looks as if there were no words to describe how well this trip turned out to be for the team, Coach Chris, and the families!

Great job to all the teams! We are eagerly anticipating an even better President's Day Weekend!!

Go Bears!!
