16s runner up in Valencia, Mites and PeeWees take 3rd in Santa Rosa

As many hockey families have come to understand, holiday weekends don't mean vacation - they mean an extra day or two to spend in the rink at a tournament. Presidents' Weekend in particular is a busy weekend for teams as they head down the stretch of the regular NORCAL season towards playoffs.

For 2013 Presdients' Weekend, both Oakland Bears Midget teams went to Valencia where the Midget 16 A team finished runner-up to league rival Fresno. The team finished the weekend 2-2 after beating Chandler (Ariz.) and Orange County to qualify for the championship game.

The Mites, PeeWees and Bantams all trekked off to Santa Rosa's Wine Country Face Off, where the host Flyers pulled out all the stops to make the weekend a great tournament for all involved. The Mites took home 3rd place with a record of 2-2, coming from behind to beat Lake Tahoe 7-4 in the 3rd place game. The PeeWees, after losing a heartbreaker to the LA Jr. Kings in the morning, took the evening's rematch 3-1 to seal their 3rd place finish.

The Bears Bantams and Midget 18 A teams both had great showings, competing against teams a division higher than them - with the Bantams going 2-2 versus Bantam A teams from Vancouver, Oregon and Southern California. The Midget 18 A team finished 1-2 verses AA teams from Southern California.

Congratulations to all Oakland Bears teams as they make a run towards the NORCAL playoffs and ultimatey the California Amateur Hockey Association State Championships in April.
