Team falls short of birth in championship game

The Oakland Bears Midget 18 A team's season ended a day earlier than planned. After a positive start against the Pasadena Maple Leafs on Friday, the Bears fell in back-to-back one-goal losses to the hands of eventual-champion Capital Thunder (4-3) and runner-up Anaheim Jr. Ducks (2-1) on Saturday, eliminating them from championship contention.

After beating Capital Thunder twice on their way to the NORCAL Championship a month earlier, the Oakland Bears jumped to a lead after two periods, but could not hold on against their NORCAL rivals, surrendering a goal with less than four minutes remaining in the game.

No doubt a tough pill to swallow, the team was forced to quickly regroup for the evening's game against the Anaheim Jr. Ducks if it had any hopes of advancing to the championship. Needing help to advance, the Bears jumped on the Ducks early scoring less than two minutes into the game. That goal turned out to be the only puck that got past the Jr. Ducks goaltender for the rest of the game.

Congratulations to the Oakland Bears Midget 18 A team, as well as all of the other Oakland Bears teams on a great season and here's to looking forward to next season!

GO BEARS!
