San Jose – Nov28 - 30, 2013
The Oakland Bears Peewee hockey team was one goal away from passing the Anaheim Jr. Ducks to take second place and appear in the 2013 Silver Stick Championship Game. The Bears played strong and came from behind to tie Anaheim but couldn’t get that elusive 3rd goal. Had any one of several good shots made it past the Anaheim goalie the Bears would have played on Sunday against the San Jose Jr.
The Bears opened the tournament with a 7-1 loss to the SJ Jr. Sharks, but followed that up with a tie against Tri-Valley, a win versus a good San Jose Sharks Ice team, and ended with the tie versus Anaheim.
Some highlights from the tournament include Marc adding to his season scoring with 2 more goals, assists by Quinn K, Quinn E, Nils, Hayley, Nolan, Justin, Andrew, Max, and Julian. Good hustle to pucks and back-checking by Tyler, Erin and Nicholas. Thurston won scoring title for division with “Official” count of 12 points(11g/1a). James saw a lot of shots and played a great series of games making many key stops and quick glove saves. The defensive highlight was a game 4 hip-check by Mathew Sigel, that except for being a year and a half too early, was timed and executed perfectly. Keep that for your first Bantam season Mathew!
Congratulations to Coaches Brandon, Chris, and Mat for a well-coached set of games and a hearty Congratulations to Coach Joe and the Midget 18 team winning their Silver Stick Championship game!
