Oakland Bears 10UB & 10UBB Compete for CAHA State Championship

The CAHA B/BB State Championships were held at Ice Station in Valencia, CA on the weekend of April 6th-8th, 2018. The Oakland Bears made their first appearance at the 10U level for the first time in over a decade (still to be confirmed)!

The 10UB team sought to avenge their loss in the finals to the San Jose Jr. Sharks, in the final game of their weekend. They were up 2-1 with minutes left in the game when SJ found the back of the net and forced an OT period. After five minutes of no goals, they teams went into a shootout! After no goals in the three rounds, it entered a Sudden Death round – the Bears were able to connect on their first shooter! Moments later, the SJ skater streaked down the middle lane and fired a laser --- that hit the crossbar! Oakland was able to claim 3rd best in the State of California with a 3-2 victory over the SJ Jr. Sharks.

The Bears 10UBB team ended up in a three-way tie to see who would play the LA Kings in the State Championship game on Sunday morning. Minutes after their last game of the round robin, it was confirmed that they had won the tie-breakers and would move on! The support of arch-rival, Capital Thunder, would not go unnoticed as they came to cheer on this Bears team the next morning! The Bears entered Sunday morning with a fire in their heart. The LA team had stifled them during the round robin play, but they knew they had more to give.

The Kings struck first and held on to a 1-0 lead late into the second period. The Bears would be awarded a power play and they took advantage, scoring in less than 10 seconds into the man-advantage! This game was so tightly battled, that the game was tied 1-1 until the last five minutes of the third period. Unfortunately, Oakland just could not find the back of the net anymore, and lost the State Championship 3-1 – good enough to claim Second Place in the State!

Congratulations to both Bears 10UB & Bears 10UBB teams as they persevered and conquered adversity every step of the way this year! We are proud of how they represented themselves and our organization both on and off the ice!
